James Dulaney 12/22/06
My mother's maiden name was Dulany. My family is from the Jefferson and Hamilton Co., IL area near Mt. Vernon. Many of the family lived around Dahlgren and Bluford, IL after the 1860's. Prior to that, Preston and Susan Hutson Dulany and their children lived in White and Van Buren Counties in Tennessee. Preston Dulany was my great great grandfather. Preston and Susan Dulany had seven sons.
My family searched for years to find information about Preston's parents. My grandfather, mother and aunts visited some of the Sullivan Co.,TN Dulanys and looked through court records in White Co., TN in the 1930's.Early White Co., TN court records suggest that he was Thomas and that Thomas died before 1810.Preston's mother was Eleanor/Nelly.She is found in Tennessee court documents up to the 1830's. DNA seems like the only way our family will be able to connect to other branches of Dulaney/Dulany Delaney families.
Preston spoke of a relative named Elkanah and chose that name for a grandson, born in 1874. A biography, published after Preston's death, names his brothers as Thomas, who died in a war, and James. James lived in Mississippi, maybe near Jackson. He gave Preston an English made straight razor which is in the possession of one of my cousins. I don't have further information on James Dulany or their sister, Nancy Dulany Cook. She was a widow of George Cook by 1840.Another sister. Mary Dulany, married Blackstone Howle.
I haven't received any emails from men interested in the DNA testing gift certificates to be used by December 31.
