Hello to all: I am researching the name of Titus Delany/Dulany who was born around 1803(census records)in North Carolina. He is very difficult to get any information on. But from what I do know he came to Roane County Tennessee in the early 1800's. He is in the 1850 census then moves his family to Putnam County where he is enumerated in the 1860 census. He apparantly dies before 1870 as his wife Malinda is in the 1870 census. Som of the family would later remove to Overton/Pickett areas in Tennessee. One son, Harvey T. Dulany was a minister in the Hiwassee Baptist Church organization. Also, Titus signed a petition in the 1850's in Roane County to "Have Hiwassee River Navigatable". This is all I know of him for sure. The tradition of the family is follows. They came to New Orleans Louisiana and were dark complected. Gt-gt grandmother Susan was quoted as saying that she can remember crossing the water when she was a very little girl. According to family it was assumed that she meant the ocean, but I question that believe she may have meant the Hiwasee River, not sure! In later census records of Susan and Harvey, it mentions that the nativity of their father is "United States". Does not list any state as province. I have done a search of immigrant Delany's and variants and show a M. Delano that came to New Orleans in 1823, age 20. This is the only Delany or variant that comes to New Orleans of record. M. Delano is said to be a "fisherman" from Havanna Cuba. This Delano fits the description of my Delany I'm searching but very questionable. Was Titus a fisherman who sailed around and went to New Orleans. I have been told that Titus is part of the family of Abraham Delany and possibly John D. Delany who came to Tennessee in early 1800's. Need verification if possible on this or any other leads. Any help is appreciated. Jean Stamm Notify Administrator about this message?
