Walter, I have you descending from your father Walter McKinley via J. Walter Dula who was born in 1878 and died in 1904. J. Walter was the 3rd child of Alexander Dula (1854 - 1919) and Cora Minnie Gaither. Walter was the first born child but was also a twin (Leonard). He was also one of fourteen and had triplet siblings (Vinnie, Hattie, and Lizzie). Alexander, his father, was the 4th child born to Harriet Harshaw Corpening Dula and her owner Squire Alfred James Dula.

I've heard several theories to the "Dula" origin, a few give it an Irish derivation O'Dooley, Dooley, Dowling etc. all the way to German, French & Hungarian depending on who you speak to. My guess is Irish or a form thereof. We are fortunate that the name our ancestor was given via ownership is peculiar and the land and legacy has maintained.

Russell Dula
