You are most likely descended from William or Bennett DULA, brothers, who settled in what is now Caldwell Co in the late 1780s. I would bet on William as most of Bennett's descendants moved on to GA. William died in 1835 in
Wilkes Co NC and is buried in the area which became Caldwell Co in 1847. There are still a good many DULAs in
Caldwell Co. You would also be a cousin to Thomas DULA, the infamous "Tom Dooley" as in "Hang Down Your
Head..." You might get some responses by posting a query on the Caldwell Co NC GenForum and Rootsweb message board for Caldwell Co. I suppose the flood your father referred to was the real baddie of 1940.
