Hello Dooley Cousins, (I know you are out there).
I am looking for information about the Thomas DOOLEY family, and his son William Harrison Dooley. Thomas is believed to have been born about 1792. Thomas is listed in the 1830 and 1840 for Claiborne County, TN, and paid a school tax in 1832 and 1838. Both the 1830 and 1840 census show him with a woman the right age to be his wife and several children. By the 1850 census Thomas is living in Lawrence Co., KY, with a completely new family. (Different age for wife and all children under 10.) Does anyone know what happened to the family in Tennessee? Did Thomas and his wife divorce and she get the kids? Did the wife and kids die? Did Thomas just walk out and leave them? (I did not find the rest of the family in Claiborne Co., on the 1850 census.) Was there any plague or sickness in the Claiborne Co., TN, between 1840 and 1850?
I'm searching for ancestors for the family of William Harrison Dooley. He was born about 1826 in Claiborne Co., TN, so it says on the 1850 census for Lawrence Co., KY. It is believed Harrison was the son of Thomas Dooley, listed in the 1830, 1840 census of Claiborne Co., TN. William left Claiborne Co. between 1840 and 1850 and moved with the John McDowell family to Floyd County, KY. Harrison listed his profession as teamster on the 1850 census of Lawrence Co. I have no idea about names for Harrison’s siblings. There are children listed on the 1830/1840 census for Claiborne Co. TN, but I do not know their names. I have no name for the wife of Thomas. I am stuck. Does any of this sound familiar?
William Harrison Dooley married Cythina (Sidney) McDowell, daughter of John McDowell, in Lawrence Co., KY. Sidney died giving birth to twins on 16 Dec. 1853. The girls lived, Luvina and Paulina, and were raised by their grandparents.
Next he married Martha Ann McKinster on 1 Oct. 1855 in Lawrence Co., KY. Their children were:
1. John Adam, born Little Blaine, died Oklahoma.
2. Walter, born Little Blaine, died Ash Hopper, Scarberry Branch, married Elizabeth Arrington
3. Bufford Columbus, born Little Blaine 14 March 1861, died George’s Creek 4 January 1935, married Martha Jane Compton 26 July 1881.
4. Thomas Leander, born 17 May 1863, died Greenup Co., KY. 24 Feb 1928, married Drusilla Bates 1902, Lawrence Co.
5. James Robert, born George’s Creek 1871,
6. E.C. (this is believed to be a daughter, Elizabeth Catherine) born before August 1873, died Oct 15, 1876 of a fever. (She is mentioned in her father's will and he died, Sept/Oct 1873.)
William Harrision died around Oct/Nov 1873.
If any of this sounds familiar to you, please let me know. Thanks and happy hunting.
Brenda
