Dukes Family in MD and IN and IL

I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I have been having a tough time locating tracing the genealogy for the Dukes family. For the longest time I was stuck at my great grandfather Ernest Stearns Dukes b. 31 Oct 1899 Covington d. 30 Jun 1965.

Recently I was sent some information from my uncle that enabled me to get a far back a James A. Dukes b. Abt. 1837 Caroline County, Maryland d. Abt. 1850
I also have some partial information James' father Jeremiah Dukes b. Abt. 1795 who is married to Arbanna Arbama.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
