In researching Simeon Duke, (the Jr in Marion MS in 1830, and then living in Catahoula, LA in 1840), it appears he was related to Thomas T Duke who was also in Catahoula in 1840, but is 10 yrs younger.Simeon stands in for the deceased Thomas T at the distribution of Elias Carter's goods upon his demise in 1842.Thomas T was married to Elias Carter and Lucy Duke Stone Carter's daughter Emeline, who ends up being E. A. Oglethorpe in 1850 and appears to have some of Simeon's kids in her household in Concordia, LA.Lucy Duke Stone was the daughter of Mathew Stone and [Mary] Jane Duke, daughter of Thomas Duke, Sr [wife Elizabeth] living Oglethorpe, Georgia in early 1800's, a son of JTD.Thomas Duke, Sr had a son Thomas Duke, Jr who married Mary Polly Smith, daughter of Isham Smith, also found in Oglethorpe, Georgia during that time.
Mathew Stone & Jane and Elias Carter and Lucy all went to Louisiana and were there before Simeon and Thomas T got there.I don't think this Simeon is a son of Robert, but of Thomas Duke, Jr & Mary Polly Smith because of the connection between Thomas Duke, Sr, and Mathew Stone, and Mathew Stone and Elias Carter. There is a Simeon Smith (along with Peacocks & Partins in Edgefield, SC in 1810) that I can't connect, but I'm trying to figure out where the name "Simeon" came from.Simeon Duke of LA named his first son Eldridge, but I think the Eldridge Duke, living in Capt Shaw's District, Morgan, GA in 1830, is too young to be his father.Eldridge married Betsy Lee in 1812, then Jane McDonald.By 1842, Jane is marrying Squires Lyon in Georgia, so he doesn't make it to the 1850 census.
If you can shoot holes in this, please do; or if there's some light to be shed, I'd appreciate that, too.I'm at the end of what I can find online and, unfortunately, I'm not able to travel.
My husband comes from this Simeon, which is the same Simeon that Mary Franks descends from, just a different son of Simeon than my husband.
Thanks to all.emm
