NOTES: Will dated 16 Dec 1815, probated Feb 1816, Book E, p. 122. Will 1815, Edgecombe Co. Gave Mary life estate in plantation his father Peter gave him. Gave lands to sons Allen, Peter, Lewis, Arthur, daus Eliz Batts a mare, Bridle, saddle; Martha Miller a bed and $350; Nancy a bed and slave; to sons Jesse B & Edwin six slaves, to be divided when Jesse was 21; to daus Lydia and Sylviah a slave each.
Note: Cobbs settled on the county line of Beaufort, later Pitt and Edgecombe, with a government land patent when Indian lands opened for white settlement. They migrated to Edgecombe where they lived over 100 yrs. The county line crossed the Tar River and went west toward Conetoe Creek. (Edge from Bertie 1741). The southeast part of Edgecombe butted on Beaufort. (Part of Pitt was annexed to Edge 1801). The part where Edgecombe crossed Conetoe Creek was the county line, it went west to intersect the former county line. This was the area of Cobb homesteads. There was connection with three other prominent families as early as 1753, including Knights, thru marriages, estates and land records, etc. This verifies areas of residences, so close in proximity, there was going back and forth over the county line to do business at will. I strongly suspect that Mary Cobb was a member of one of these Cobb groups. A Cobb,described as "good friend", was executor of Jesse's 1815 will. (Pam Jordan still working on this.)

NOTES: Jesse B. Knight children: Allen, Elizabeth "Betsy", Martha, Temperence, Nancy, Peter, Lydia, Jesse B., Edwin, Lewis (And two not yet confirmed are Arthur & Sylvia (Knight)---These two maybe the children of Jesse & Mary.
Jesse's 1st wife is unknown. His 2nd wife was Mary Cobb who after Jesse's death married his brother Willis. She may have been the mother of Sylvia. (post by Carolyn Tamblyn)
