Hi Lynn, I've been reviewing the various recent Duke findings and postings and the YDNA results for the Duke lines, specifically those in Prince George Co VA (Capt Henry and descendants), and William Duke in Brunswick Co VA (later in Warren, Granville and Orange NC) and the John Duke line in Isle of Wight VA. Joseph Duke in Warren Co NC dec'd 1779 lists sons Isham, Sherrod, Hardy (Hardyman) and Ransom in his will. He is also listed as the father of Eppes Duke (who had moved from NC by then). Joseph is listed in family trees as a son of William Duke from Brunswick VA, meaning that he is in Group 2 YDNA. However, the Hardeman name connects to the Capt Henry Duke line (Group 4 YDNA...not Group 2) from Prince George Co VA who married Elizabeth Taylor. Elizabeth's sisters married Hardyman boys, and they connect to the Eppes family there as well, presumed to be sources of these first names given to sons. The Hardeman first name seems to be in Group 4 YDNA although Joseph's father William of Brunswick VA is said to connect to Group 2 YDNA. Group 4 YDNA descendants list Hardeman Duke (the one in GA and later AL) as their ancestor. The Hardeman in Laurens SC is another with that name (in addition to the Hardeman Duke who died 1839 in Orange NC). Sorry to ramble, but this seems to be contradictory if these same individuals are listed in two different lines. Do you know for sure that William Duke of Brunswick Co VA is blood related to the John Duke line in Isle of Wight (Group 2)? If so, it seems strange that his son Joseph would name sons after the Group 4 line of Capt Henry Duke. Thanks again for all of your help. Gary Notify Administrator about this message?
