John you are correct, I did mean the Yellow River. I sent for the military records for my ggrandfather John Gipson/Gibson. They stated that he was born in Knox Ccounty, Kentucky in 1845 about 25 miles south of Barbourville. He lived in the same areas as families named Turner and Jones.

This is my assumption but I am having a hard time proving. The 1850 census has Henry Gibson.(Ancestry.com has them listed as Gepsone) living with several children one of who is named John. My ggrandfathers military papers states that his furlough was spent with his grandfather Henry Gibson in Pulaski County Kentucky so I am assuming that Henry was his grandfather not father. There is also two Henry's living in that househould as well as Rebecca. I believe that one of the Henry's was John's brother as the 1880 census of LaRue County which is where my ggrandfather moved after the war has a Henderson brother of John living with him.

I think that Rebecca married James Dugger. The 1860 has a John Gipson age 15 living with them. Which I believe is my John. The military records also states that before the war John work with or for James Dugger. Coincidence I do not think so. James was used as a reference in order of John to receive his military pension. The 1900 also has a George Gipson living in the household of James and Rebecca. I have not tied back to John but I am sure there is a relationship.

If Rebecca was the daughter of Henry then I believe it is probably John's Aunt. I also believe that James and Rebecca's daughter Elizabeth (Lizzie) married my grandfather son of John Milton (Dock) Young Gipson/Gibson, i do know that my mother was always told that she was of Indian descent as most people were told. But my mother was definatley dark, high cheek boned with black hair, and very long shoveled teeth. However she had very blue eyes.

Again this is all speculation and have had a great deal of difficulty proving.

If Kim has any information on this family I would love to discuss with her.
