I was told that Reece Thomas Dugger , b. ? d. 1937 , was the son of Thomas J. Dugger and Ella Verena Foster Dugger. I had been unsuccessful in learning more until I found two books on Maury County, that I believed would answer all my questions, but now I’m more confused than ever. “Maury County, Tennessee History & Families” p 250 According to the article entitled “Dugger – Bailey”, it lists the nine children of David and Katherine Bailey Dugger, including (5) Shadrach S. b. 2/20/1814 d. 11/7/1896 m. Martha Jane Laneare on 7/20/1850. “Maury County, Tennessee Cemeteries” pp509-510 New Ramie Cemetery Shadrack S. Dugger 20 Feb 1814 – 7 Nov 1896 Martha Jane Leneave 31 Oct 1851 – 23 Dec 1910 Disregarding the slight error in the spelling of Martha’s maiden name, the obvious error is in her listed birthdate and the marriage date. Tom J. (Jeremiah) Dugger, 8 Oct 1850 – 15 Jul 1934 (Son S. S. & Martha Jane Laneave Dugger) Ella V. Dugger, 16 Dec 1863 – 24 Oct 1924 (Dau. Richard & Sallie Fleming Foster) Reece Thomas Dugger, 16 Aug 1879 – 3 July 1937 (Son of Shadrick & Martha Jane Dugger) Jennie Anne Dugger, 17 Dec 1879 – 16 Jul 1963 “Buried at Lynnwood.” (Nee McQuigg) Checking the 1880 Maury Co. census Dist. 6 p184A Shadrach Dugger, age 65 is listed with wife Martha age 40 and 7 children, ranging from age 28 to age 7. Thomas (J.?) is listed at age 25, but does not appear with a wife or children. There is also a 23 year old Milton Dugger living next door with a wife. This would appear to be another son. If Martha and Shadrach were married in 1850, all children listed fit this date as being their children. It would also appear that Martha’s age on the census is incorrectly entered, as it was on the cemetery inscription. There is no child listed for Shadrach and Martha that fits for Reece Thomas, if born in 1879. If he is indeed the son of Thomas J. and Ella V. Foster Dugger, then they married after the census was taken and Reece was born later than 1879, making the cemetery inscription in error. Can anyone help me with this confusion of dates? I would greatly appreciate any information. Tom Notify Administrator about this message?
