Hi,
I hope I'm looking for Duffy of Co. Meath! My husband's family believe that all their Duffy's originated in Kells, Co. Meath and to hear them talk the graveyard is full of their ancestors. Unfortunately, another branch of the family think it was the grandmother's family who came from Kells - her name was Ellen Manning.
Just in case my husband's family are right, this is the situation at the moment....
Michael Duffy born abt 1820 (not known where) coachman, married Bridget Dunne abt 1850. In 1852 they had a son, James Duffy (no other siblings known) and they moved to Dublin where James also became a coachman. In 1875 he married Ellen Manning. They had 2 children, Michael & Ellen before moving to England & Scotland and producing another 8 children.
Incidentally, Meath Heritage Society has no records of Ellen Mannings birth in Kells - but so far I haven't written to ask about the Duffys.
