Batavia (Illinois) Herald, Sept. 8, 1933 (Part of a long story about Batavia's centennial celebration.) Prizes to Old Citizens Great interest was displayed throughout the day in the contest for the old settler's prizes. John Duffy, born in Batavia on December 25, 1855, and a resident of this city all his life, was given the Centennial Prize, a gold watch for being the oldest resident on the grounds in point of continuous residence. The watch will be inscribed "Batavia Centennial - Longest Resident - Dec. 25, 1855 to Sept. 4, 1933. John Duffy." --------- Posted as a courtesy.
