My grandfather,MICHAEL BERNARD DUFFY, who died before my birth, apparently left ireland in some sort of a hurry. He maintained no communication with his family, but according to my late father he was one of twenty children. With this in mind i feel that this Duffy family in Melbourne Australia must have a multitude of unknown relatives. Recently my brother unearthed some documentation to the effect that:- Michael Bernard Duffy , born Dublin May 13 1868, left Dublin on july 12,1884 aboard the "Shamrock". He then left Liverpool on July 18, on the"Haughton Lower", bound for Australia. We have no arrival date. On july 19 he married Catherine Raxworthy ( formerly from Christchurch New Zealand). From their marraige certificate we have that his fathers name was CHRISTOPHER DUFFY, who had wed ELEANOR SHEAHAN. ( no date available) I remember my father stressing that the family had been resident in Navan, co. Meath, at the time Mick flew the coop. Given the glorious multitude of Duffys out there, it would be wonderful to make contact with some of our missing family. with regards to you all, Chris Duffy, Melbourne, Australia.
