ALSO:Obituary Of 7 Year Old
Francis Dillon
(Extracted from the newspaper “Malone Farmer” April 1915

The body of little Francis Dillon, the 7-year-old who lost his life by falling into the Salmon River, some distance south of the Pearl street bridge on Sunday April 11th, was found Saturday afternoon at a point in the river opposite West street by Charles Lancto and Paul Bushey. There is an island at this point and the water spreads out shallow on either side. The body was almost covered with sand washed down in the high water, but one of the child’s arms protruded above the sand and finally caught the eyes of the searchers who were patrolling the river in a boat. The body had gone over three dams and a distance of more than half a mile before it lodged where it was found. The men received the reward of $50. Offered by a resident of Malone for the finding of the body and divided it equally between them. The funeral took place from St. Joseph’s church Sunday afternoon and was largely attended. Many beautiful flowers were sent to the Dillon home by sympathizing friends to assuage the sorrow of the stricken parents, and the grave in the Ft. Covington street cemetery was lined with evergreen and flowers. The finding of the body is said to have been the result of a clairvoyant dream by a daughter of Mr. Lancto who had gained something of a reputation as a second-sight expert and fortune teller. The dream suggested the place and search was made there far from the vicinity where searching had gone forward for nearly a week.
