The name Duffy comes from O'Duhbthaigh which translates into "Black Irish". O'Duhbthaigh's are thought to be descendants of Spaniards from the Spanish Armada who did not make it back to Spain, and settled in Ireland.
I have never heard the "dark prince", but I imagine there are many translations. I hope this is helpful.
