Mr. Chesley, I am a descendant of Gov. Dudley (via daughter Anne Dudley Bradstreet) but have not paid much attention to this lineage for some time. So, it was with some surprise that I read your post relating the Y-DNA test results that appear to discredit the long-held belief that Thomas could trace his ancestry to the Earls of Sutton and, thence, to the royal line. It seems to me that such is headline news, but it drew absolutely no commentary on this forum (something I view as a weakness of the system in that it seems to elicit little discussion, only the exchange of information). My question is whether you have seen a shift in the position of serious scholars of Gov. Dudley's paternal ancestry, acknowledging this apparently definitive genetic information; that is, do Gov. Dudley's descendants now accept that he was NOT of the Sutton line? I would also find it interesting to learn the details of the DNA testing; for example, how many men with known Sutton and known Gov. Thomas Dudley descent were tested and in how many markers did they differ? If possible, it would be helpful to post a copy of that email on this forum for all to see. If, for whatever reason, that is inappropriate, would it be possible to send me a copy off-line? Thank you. With best regards, David G.
