Darrell, Thank you for your response. It gives me a start here. Moonshine runners! Doesn't surprise me. I recently heard from a relative that there are some alcohol issues with our Dudley's hmmm... Do you know when and what County of Georgia Nicholas was born? My Samuel was born in 1784 in Georgia as well. Was married in 1806 in Roane, Tennessee, then from there went to Rhea, Tennessee and died there I believe (I don't have any evidence of that) between 1860 and 1870. His son Jesse Byrd b 1835, Tennessee (guessing Hickman County but not sure). Married Margaret Baker in 1857 in Rhea, Tennessee, went to Missouri for a couple of years (where my 2nd great grandfather was born in 1858 but not sure of the County) then moved to Lamar, Texas (without Margaret) where he died in 1906. Again, I wouldn't suspect a connection with Samuel and Nicholas except that William Reilly Dudley, who is supposedly a son of Nicholas is buried in the same cemetery with my Jesse Byrd Dudley. I'm not sure if they are near each other. Make sure you read the obit of William Reilly Dudley on my other post if he is Nicholas' son it will tell you a lot about where there paths lead them. At first, I thought Jesse Byrd and William Reilly were brothers but since Jesse was living with Samuel at 15 years old with a 17 year old Martha and "parents" Samuel and Martha Sherrill, I'm assuming Jesse is Samuel's son. He could be a nephew though. I haven't seem Samuel and Nicholas in the same place at the same time at any point though. I can't remember how long William Reilly and Jesse Byrd were in Lamar, Texas together and if they lived close together. I'll have to check on that. I do know where Jesse Byrd died and is buried so I'm going to try to get a death certificate. I'll let you know what I find out. Do you know where Nicholas died? I'm having trouble finding him on census records. Let me know if you blast through that brick wall! Shirley Notify Administrator about this message?
