Boy did someone have the facts wrong!!! Margarets name and parents were right...marriage date correct BUT...she married "Peirre Francois Paul Deins deLaRonde. He was an officer at Fort Pontchatrain. In 1765 Susanne was granted a seperation on the grounds of his dissipation. Pierre was killed at the Battle of La Colle on April 23, 1781 with general James Abercrombie of Sterling Castle" As per the book History of the Denis de LaRonde Family written by E. Bacon Vaughn 1949. Pierre's parents Louis Denis VII m. Louise Chartier in 1709. It was Louise who "took on the possition of commandant of the post....the fort at LaPointe de Chequamegon....when Louis died in 1741. It was a unique possition for a woman to hold in American history...military commandant, cival governor, judge and jury over a domain which consisted of half a million sqaure miles. After six years as commandant she returned to Montreal, where she spent her remaining years near her children." (As per above mentioned book)

So it looks like my original info was just a bit off. I am still looking for further info on Margaret Susanne though!
