Hi Richard
Good to know of your connection to the Sheffield Duckenfields, of which I believe there still quite a few. I am connected to the Holmfirth Duckenfields who settled in the Holme Valley also in the 1600s and remained there for at least the next two hundred years. There are still some Duckenfields/Dukinfields living in the Huddersfield area although my lot moved first of all to Saddleworth, then Mossley, then Oldham, then Horwich near Bolton, all of the latter in Lancashire.
I have always believed that there must be a connection between the Holmfirth and Sheffield Duckenfields as the two places are only some 25 miles apart, a mere day's wagon ride away in those days, but have not yet been able to prove it.
You mention that there have been Duckenfields in the Aughton area since the 1600s - have you been able trace that far back yourself? I would be interesed to know if you have to see if my earliest ancestor, an Edward Duckenfield, was connected.
Best wishes, Anne
