tracking the name Dublin

I have been tracking the Doublin/Dublins of NC, AL, MS KY MO for over 20 years, and have not found the true origin of the name, as many of mine spelled it with an "O" and many in my line dropped it for convenience.I find only one family that came from NC by way of AL and MS and came to Graves Co KY, then some left for MO and IL. Some of them went to TX I am told, and later CA.My line stayed in KY for almost 2 centuries, and are still there.I find names like Doublinsky and similar and have always wondered if they dropped part of the name to make it more Americanized. All of mine earlier were either red or blonde headed so seemed to indicate somewhat the area of the world they came from.Anything you could add I would appreciate.
