I was searching the Internet for anything on the surname "Wadderston" and came across your Genealogy Forum message and looking at your list of Dryden Births GB 1720-1739 I was intrigued by the following entry:
DRYDEN, Margaret Bir 1726 Scot Selk Selkir
Fa: John DRYDEN
Mo: Isabel WADDERSTON
My Brydon family line is supposedly descended from John Brydon and Isobel Weatherstone however after some reasearch I believe the line is possibly descended from John Brydon or Bryden and Isobel Wadderston married 10 Apr
1725 at Selkirk, Selkirk, Scotland who had at least three offspring:
Andrew - Christening 30 Jan 1728 Selkirk, Selkirk, Scotl.
Janet - Christening 2 Mar 1729 Selkirk, Selkirk, Scotland
William - Christening 24 Mar 1734 selkirk, Selkirk, Scotl.
Now it could be a coincidence but I cannot help feeling that Margaret Dryden (Christening 17 Apr 1726 Selkirk, Selkirk, Scotland)was in fact Margaret Brydon and John Dryden was in fact John Brydon or Bryden.
I would be interested in hearing if you have ever seen the surname Dryden confused with Brydon, Bryden, Briden, etc.
As for Isabel Wadderston (I have also seen Watherston, Watherstone aand Wadderstone) I believe she might be the Isabell Wadderston - Christening 4 Jul 1704 Legerwood, Berwick, Scotland daughter of William Wadderston and Isabel Murray.
