Daniel and Lucy Marshall Drury

Descendents of Holland Drury have long wondered if he was a child of Daniel and Lucy Marshall Drury. While visiting the LDS Family History Library in Salt Lake City I read the transcripts of Edwin Drury (of Willamette, ILL)who wrote the Drury/Heald genealogies. He wrote many letter to cousins running down the descendants. Among those was a letter to LaFayette Parker whose wife Lucy K. Drury was a cousin, and daughter of Daniel and Lucy Drury. I did not find a response, but investigating Lucy K. found the following.

Portrait and Biographical Album of Rock County, Wisconsin, Containing Full Page Portraits And Biographical Sketches Of Prominent And Representative Citizens Of The County, Together With Portraits And Biographies Of All The Governors Of The State, And Of The Presidents Of The United States.
(Acme Publishing Company, Chicago, IL, 1889), pp. 849-850.

LaFayette Parker, deceased, was born in Richmond, Vt., September 10, 1817, and died at his home in Racine, November 14, 1885,...In Richmond, Vt., he married Lucy M. Drury, the wedding being celebrated January 1, 1838. The lady was born in Highgate, Vt., October 1, 182O, and is a daughter of Daniel and Lucy M. (Marshall) Drury, natives of Rutland and Poultney, Vt., respectively. The father was a machinist by occupation and died when Mrs. Parker was but ten years of age. In the family were twelve children but she is the only one now living.
In 1841, Mr. Parker and his wife, travelling by way of the lakes, came to Racine. ... He attended and supported the Congregational Church, of which Mrs. Parker is still a member... Although Mr. And Mrs. Parker never had any children of their own they adopted two girls, one an orphan, Harriet N., who is now the wife of H. E. Rounds, editor and proprietor of the Rogers Park (Ill.) News. The other is now Mrs. Carrie Coulter, of Colorado.

Of the twelve children of Daniel and Lucy Drury mentioned above five were noted in the 1820 VT census: a daughter 16-26, two girls under 10 and two boys under 10. Given Daniel and Lucy married in 1801, there were probably other children born between 1801 and 1810 who did not survive.

I have identified two of these children:

Marshall Scott Drury b. 1810 and living in Rochester NY in 1840 and 1850.

Calista b. 1806 who married Hezekiah Bruce living in Sheldon, VT in 1850. There second son is named Hezekiah Marshall Bruce. They also were members of the Congregationalist Church.

Lucy K. was born 10OCT1820 after the census was taken and Holland was born in 1823.

That leaves five children unaccounted for. Another possibility is Thankful Scott Drury b. Tiaconderoga, 1807 and married a Blair in Malone, NY. However, This may be a cousin of Lucy K. rather than a sister. More research is needed.

Another point of interest is that a Rebecca Drury is mentioned In the 1883 History of Fairfield and Perry County, OH as a member of the New Zion Methodist Church on the Somerset Circuit. Also members were Mahlon S. Gregg and Emily Gregg -- Holland Drury's in-laws. Who is Rebecca? More research is needed.
