Ruth,
I have been researching Hugh Drury of Boston for 10 years. I have never found any evidence that his father was actually named Obed or any hard data on his ancestry in England. The fact that he had a sister Lydia is a misreading of his will, which mentions Lydia Rice as his sister. She was in fact the sister of his wife, Lydia Rice. Yes, they both had the same first name. The older Lydia was the daughter of Edmund Rice and his first wife Tamazine Frost. The second Lydia was the oldest daughter of Edmund and his second wife, Mercy (maiden name unknown), widow of Thomas Brigham. They named their daughter Lydia because the older Lydia was already married and therefore Lydia Drury. When Edmund died, Hugh and Lydia Drury adopted Lydia Rice as they had only one son, John, while Mercy was raising the remnants of the Rice Brood, the Brighams and her new husband, William Hunt of Concord's children.
I have a lot more to share. Please email me at mdrury@mcvean.com.
