Barbara,

I meant three sons of Simon Caswell. They are the same you note in your record.

The Drurys were a very large extended family in Shrewsbury, often intermarrying with cousins who were either Drurys or had acquired other names through marriage. They were primarily farmers, and made a living by starting towns and being at the edge of the frontier. The drurys and Rices were first to Framingham, then Worcester and the surrounding area. They founded Holliston and Temple NH. Later they wer among the earliest to VT moving quickly up to the Canadian border in St. Albans and after the war spilling over into NY.

I have most of the early Drury descendants and so was surprised to read about Rebecca who must have been born before 1785. Linda Lightholder Kmeicik trackd down most drurys born before 1850 in her book on the early New England Line.

It is possible that Rebecca Drury was a married name, but I find no Rebecca marrying into the drurys that early. There are some gaps, especially since the family was always on the move and so a child born in a different town than their siblings might be missed. obviously it is harder to find lost gorls than boys since the name changes. Still it is often rewarding to follow siblings and near relations since these families tended to move together from place to place.

I will keep looking. Let me know if you have any more background info. Note that Shapley is listed as Chapley in the LDS.

Michael Drury
