Mary, Col. Luke Drury was the son of Thomas Drury and Sarah Clarke. He was the grandson of Capt. Thomas Drury and Rachel Rice. His great grandfather was Lt. John Drury, who was promoted when his Capt. fell at the Great Swamp Fight. John's father Hugh was the immigrant ancestor and a Lt. in Boston at the start of King Phillip's War (the Peuqot war.) Note that during King Phillips war, there were only twelve Capt's and Twelve Lts. serving inder one Colonel. Capt. Luke Drury led the Grafton Minutemen to the Battle of Lexington & Concord, and ultimately to Cambridge that day. He later commissioned a troop and was promoted to Lt. Col. Many Drurys fought in the Revolution. My own ancestor Capt. Asa was a cousin of Luke's (a son of Caleb). He fought at Lexington & Concord and at Bunker Hill. Asa's brothers Capt. Nathan and Elisha died in the Revolution. His sister Hannah's first husband Capt. Michajah Gleason fell at White Plains. She remarried to General John Nixon who was wounded at Lexington & Concord. Asa's (and Col. Luke's) uncle Zedekiah was killed in the war. Zedekiah Sr, lost two sons, Zedekiah Jr. and John (a fifer.) Another son, Lt. Gershom fought at Ticonderoga. Capt. Jotham Drury, a son of John and cousin of Luke and Asa, fought in the war. Eleazer, son of Thomas, and nephew of Capt. Jotham also fought. There may be others. The Drury's were often Town leaders and founders in the Early period of New England. Michael Drury Notify Administrator about this message?
