My brother and I are descendants of Thomas Drummond (b. 1822), the eldest son Wilford Drummond (b. 1799) and Nancy Tharp. We're visiting Harrison County, WV Nov 7-9, 2011 to do some research on Wilford's parents: Thomas Drummond (b. 1765) and Sarah Sutton.
According to a local contact, Harrison County did not begin maintaining records until 1784, so there is no local birth record for Thomas Drummond. Prior to 1784, such records were maintained by the Church of England and were lost/destroyed/removed following the American Revolution.
I have seen conflicting information on the parents of Thomas Drummond. It seems that his parents may be William Drummond and Bradhurst Scarburgh of Accomack, VA. Bradhurst died at age 33 in 1765, the year that Thomas was born - perhaps at childbirth. This may be the reason that Thomas does not typically appear in the list of children of William and Bradhurst.
I would be greatful to anyone who has further information on the ancestors of Wilford Drummond that will aid our research. Hopefully our visit to Harrison County will provide further information.
