I just came across this marriage record and thought I would post: Frederick Drowns married Martha R.Orton in Malden MA
on January 6, 1903 he was 28 yrs and she was 24 yrs and first marriages for both. It lists his occupation as a manager and hers as stenographer. He was born St John's Newfoundland son of Jabez Drowns and Theresa Vail. Martha was born in Irving, Ill. daughter of Charles Orton and Rebecca H. Higgins. Dorothy Orton Drowns was born in 1904 and Mildred Reba was born 1909 both in Malden MA.

Jabez was also born(according to census records about 1849) in Newfoundland died on Brockton MA (age 58 yrs 1 month 6 days)on August 8, 1907 and on his death record it lists no father or mother(information given by son Harry). It says he was a blacksmith buried in Melrose Cemetery in Brockton, MA. His wife Elizabeth Anne Bulter Drowns died in 1907.

I know Frederick had siblings William T.; Harry G. and sister Bertha all born Newfoundland. Both marriage records of Harry and Bertha say their mother was Elizabeth Bulter. However, the 1903 marriage record of William who was 31 yrs of age in 1903 says his mother was Theresa Vail. Apparently Jabez had 2 wives.

I hope this helps you. Sincerely, MaryLou Drown
