Nina Drown, 1884 Bridgton, ME

Someone may find the following information useful or may be able to clarify or add additional facts. I have verified most of the following by the adoption papers I just recently received. The rest is from the family history and my own research from other sources. I am the grandson of Nina Drown.

Nina Drown was born probably in February 1883/1884 in Bridgton, ME. Her parents were Charles Douglas and Frances Drown, unmarried, at least at the time of her birth. Nina was adopted by Thomas and Martha Parsons of Richmond, ME, June 1, 1897. Her name was changed at that time to Florence Parsons. My grandmother claimed that her name was Florence Mae Parsons. Possibly Nina’s full birth name was Nina Mae Drown. The adoption papers say her mother’s name was Teeney Drown, but at the time of adoption her mother’s name was Mrs. Charles E. Douglas. The papers also say her father is unknown. Interestingly, a friend of Nina’s signs the adoption papers giving his consent to the adoption and her name change. His name is Charles E. Smith! Perhaps the similarity of names is only a coincidence.

I believe, but can’t prove, that Nina’s grandparents (Drowns), or Frances’ (Teeney’s) parents, are Harvey Erastus Drown and B. Elizabeth (Lizzie) Downs. I know nothing of Charles Douglas.
