Hi, You can assume anything-proving something that is the challenge. What you have here is a lead. Why couldn't John be Dennis' father rather than his brother? I have a copy of the 1880 census for my great grandmother and her kids and it shows the relationship of each person in the household to the head of the family. So if you check the 1880 census it should show the relationship between everyone in the household to the head. If Dennis was living in John's household or vice versa it should show their relationship to eachother. Otherwise you have more work to do. I think it is safe to assume that they are all somehow related. Just how remains to be seen. Isn't this fun?
