Drinkwater research (early 19th cent) in Maine

My wife and I are planning a trip to Maine this summer to research my Drinkwater ancestors (my greatgrandmother was born Harriet Drinkwater in Durham in 1861). Any advanced advice on places to go and see in Durham and No. Yarmouth? I'm especially interested in her father Retire whose father was also, I hope, Retire. Several variations on Retire - Retiar, Retia, Retiah - so vital record research a must, plus churches, etc. Thanks for the help!
