Driggs Family Genealogy Forum

I am attaching an e-mail that I sent lasr month to my cousin James R. Driggs Jr of Provo, Utah. I have been doing research on my ancestor Joseph Driggs (c1686-1748) of Middletown, Connecticut, off and on for anout 15 years and had given up hope on finding his origin. I had searched records all over England, Wales and Scotland and could not find a thing on the family. I worked with Chris Chester two years ago on a Y-DNA test that I got my uncle J. Robert Driggs to take. The Y-DNA test proved that my uncle J. Robert Driggs (b. 1931)was not related to the Josias Dratz family of Brooklyn, New York. Chris Chester informed me at that time, that my uncle's DNA Haplo group which was "T" is not common in Europe but the highest concentration can be found in Portugal, Spain and Italy. At that time my family speculated that perhaps Driggs was a shortened version of Rodriguez/Rodrigues and maybe his name was Jose or Joseph Rodriques. It was interesting speculation, but we had no proof
Information that I have uncovered recently shows that indeed our ancestor Joseph Driggs was from Portugal and changed his name from Rodrigues to Driggs. I will attach the e-mail in several parts.
