The Driggers does indeed contain some indian heritage. Moses Driggers, born sometime before 1820, was listed in the 1830 census of Sumber County as having one wife, Elizabeth. Elizabeth was a Scathwah, or Cherokee Indian. After marriage, she was given the Christian name of Elizabeth. The story is told that Moses died before Elizabeth and was buried in Clarendon County. Upon her death, Elizabeth was refused burial because of her indian ancestry. The family buried her on private property in Clarendon County, dug up Moses' remains, and buried him beside his wife.

My family descends from Moses and lives primarily in the Florence/Darlington County area of South Carolina. I am not sure how Moses connects with the Marlboro County Driggers clan, though I am sure there is some common ancestry.
