I was doing some Skinner research and recently found a Skinner wife whose maiden name was Dresser. She was Ada Irene Dresser and her parents were Lewis and Ada Weeks Dresser from New York. They don't seem to have any connection to your Charles.
I also searched for Dressers and Grinnells in the 1850 Census for NY and MI, but couldn't find anyone who seemed to be connected to Charles and Nancy.
