1846 Pennington Creek, Tishomingo IT (city water for 1996 Tishomingo, now Johnston Co OK), Dr Reece Bourland was a
famous hero of KY: in 1846 collected $1,000 reward for capturing outlaw Edward Alonzo Pennington, who had murdered
Simon Davis, on [now] Pennington Creek and bringing him back to Hopkinsville KY where Pennington stood trial, and
was hanged in the first legal hanging in Christian Co KY. Lonz born to Col. Francis P. Pennington, who owned a large
farm and 15 slaves, was Justice of Peace, & elected sheriff in 1829 (served w/ integrity), had bro Morton Pennington.
Editor’s note: ...Wm H Bourland had gone to Hopkinsville to return a horse for Col. James Bourland when he heard
about the $1,000 reward and that Pennington was thought to be in Indian Territory, so he went to Lovelaceville to
convince Reece to come to the Red River area, and the Bourland brothers would help him capture Pennington.

not elected to a 2nd term in a predominately southern town. ...after the Civil War he served as Sec-Treasurer of the New
Orleans and Ohio Railroad Company, recognized by Gen U.S Grant in his report to Congress on the condition of southern
railroads, copy in Library of Congress.

Uncle Reece and gave him name of your Post office said he would write to you a line. I heard cousin Hillen [Armour
Bourland] preach a few days ago. He is a Star preacher for a young man. He is on what is called the Clinton [Hickman Co
