Centennial Address at Zion Church
The following is excerpted from the address written by Rev. E.L. Lybrand, pastor of Zion Church on the Saluda River, and delivered by him 20 August 1892:
"We are today celebrating the centennial of the building of this house..... although this house is now 100 years old, yet this is not the first house.
"There was a man named Godfrey Dreher, who during the Revolutionary War, lived along side of the old church. It is said that he was the grantor of this land...... his large two-story house served as a sort of fort against the Indians and Torys who roamed through these parts......"
