Draper alias Farmer in Buckingham England c1500's
Posted by: Jim Farmer (ID *****8581) Date: January 20, 2007 at 14:05:39

Interested in finding out more about the Draper alias Farmer Family. In Billingsgate Ward, London, it is shown:

- William Draper alias Farmer licensed as curate at St. Martin Outwich. Oct 19 1588

But the Farmer connection presumably goes back to Drapers in Buckingham County where the Farmers lived also. According to Buckingham Co Visitation, Robert Draper of Buckingham had son John who had son Robert who had son Thomas Draper of Great Marlow. No dates are given, but the Visitations refers to a coat-of-arms given to Thomas Draper in 1571, even though the arms are not depicted. Burke。ヲs Armory does describe arms for the Draper family of Great Marlow and it matches the Fermor family。ヲs except for a band of ermine added across the middle and the fleurs-de-lis colored black not blue. In addition, in the Berkshire Visitations, the arms are shown with the statement, 。ァeadem cum [same as] farmer alias Draper de Merlow。ィ and an explanation by the Clarenceux of King of Arms states:

Whereas Thomas Draper of Stroud Green in the County of Middlesex sonne of John Draper descended of a family which hath anciently borne armes has desired me to exemplify and emblazon the arms of the said family in such manner as he may not prejudice any other of that family。Kand mayntayne the reputation of Armes。K[Draper arms described]。KI have hereunto set my hand & seal of office this second day of August 1612, 20. James.

John Draper of Middlesex, mentioned above, was a gentleman and brewer of London and could have been the son or brother of Thomas Draper of Great Marlow. John died in 1576 and his wife Margery died in 1601. Their children, all born around 1560, were mentioned in their wills.

ボ       Thomas Draper, of Stroud Green, Islington, Middlesex , died 1613
ボ       Jasper Draper, of Wallbrook Ward, London, married Anne Rogers 1600 in Clerkenwell
ボ       Henry Draper, Brewer, died 1616
ボ       Robert Draper
ボ       John Draper
ボ       Anne Draper, married Bedingfield

Later, John and Margery。ヲs son Thomas had a grandson, Sir Thomas Draper of Sunningham, in Berkshire, was appointed baronet. Henry had two wives and a large family, but it has not been traced further. Any help with this lineage and how it connects to Farmer would be appreciated.
