Janis, Many thanks for your message - you are right in what you say of course.Although it would be lovely to beleive the lineage, it requires some proving. It is easy to get carried away and perhaps run before we can run. I have to say that up to now my only 'proof' has been what has been posted on Family Search Geneology site from Latter Day Saints. There have been some records cited but as yet I haven't followed them up (that same line is cited on their site with GedCom records). The 'O'Dranes' however,is news to this side of the 'pond'. Whilst it could certainly be true (although it might fly against history - with the persecution of Catholics in England throughout this period etc), family folklore on this side has always spoken of the family coming originally to England from Belgium. It has been thought to originally have been a Flemish name possibly DuRane or Drenne. Records show that the earliest recorded 'Drane' in England was a Roger Drane in approx. 1270 in Yorkshire and was stated in the Rotuli Hundredorum. I am keen to find the link between me and my American cousins and it would be good to keep in touch and attack it from both sides as it were. Regards Mark
