A couple of years ago I had a website titled "Unclogging the Dranes" but was unable to maintain it due to the heavy burden my job (as well as a spat of ill health) placed on my life. I am happy to say that my life as calmed down (and my health has recovered) so I have picked up the cause again and have decided to write a book about the Drain/Drane family in America. The title will continue to be "Unclogging the Drains/Dranes". In addition to the facts-only genealogy which will be there (similar to the old web-site format), I am also writing a narrative about the Drane family in America and their pioneering spirit. Anyone wishing to contribute family stores from their branch of the family are most welcome to do so. I expect I will be at this book for much of the next year and am hoping from a publishing date sometime in mid-2006. I have written 3 previous genealogies but not about my own family. The previous books were devoted to European royalty, but that experience has prepared me for what to expect in this endeavor. I currently have a wealth of information about most branches of the family who are descended from Anthony Drane (+1723) and his wife Elizabeth Nicholls. My information on other branches of the family and earlier generations is still sketchy and largely unconfirmed, but I have recently discovered an apparently forgotten or overlooked treasure trove of Drane info from 17th century Maryland and am anxiously awaiting the arrival of copies of these documents. If they provide any real proof of the Drane family prior to 1723, I will post that information here. For the distant cousins in the UK: I have some basic research done that might (but only "might") be the 2 or 3 generations of Dranes prior to the emigrants to the Colonies. If any UK researchers have their lines traced back to 1650 or earlier, I would love to hear about what you have. BTW, I descend from Anthony (+1723) as follows: Anthony m. Elizabeth Nicholls James (1715-1787) m. Elizabeth Piles Anthony (1755-1816) m. Ann Smith David (1770-1861) m. Jean Hayslett William (1808-1859) m. Ann Armstrong Robert (1837-1890) m. Elizabeth Anderson Harry (1875-1936) m. Minnie Cornell Helen (1923-1975) m. Albert Ward Jane Ward (1945-1969) m. Happy Brewer (ne Willis) Daniel Willis (b.1966) (me) I look froward to chatting with you all in as the book prgesses and I will regularly post updates here about the research on the earlier generations as I learn or confirm things.
