Drane Cousin Mark -
I don't want to put a damper on anyone's research, but...
As I began my Drane research 20 yrs. ago, I was in contact w/Maryland Archives; various people of the different counties represented by the Drane families (mainly PGC); and many researchers in MD. There is no documented proof whatsoever that any Drane married a Nancy Brent (whom, I believe, was the dtr. of a Governor of Maryland), or that the Dranes and Calverts ever married. Makes for nice story telling, but there isn't any documentation to support the stories. Along my Drane research I've read that the Dranes and Calverts were cousins, and that an O'Drane (supposidly the real spelling) was a "keeper of the orchids" of the alverts-- again no documentation to support the claim. Another story was of a Drane descendant who found an old chest upstairs w/Drane history in it...sadly, again, no documentation to the claims presented of early Drane ancestors.
As a researcher, I made a personal decision not to pursue the above stories, and to research my Drane ancestors of MD and GA that I could verify by documentation.
