In Reply to: Mary DRAKE m 1585 Warwickshire, England; m John BISSELL by Ruth Thoden of 6712

Ruth, from what I have gathered, a Capt. John Bissell, who was apparently born in Huntington, Somerset, perhaps moved to Warwick after his marriage and joined the group under Rev. Ephraim Huet/Hewitt to come to America. The Griswold family was also among this group from the parish of Wroxall.

George Griswold, baptised 1633 in Kenilworth, Warwick, married Mary Holcombe. They had a son Daniel who married Mindwell Bissell, dau of Nathaniel, son of Capt. John.

Mary Drake might have been born in Warwick or Somerset or someplace in between. Somerset, Dorset and Devon were full of Drake families. But there was also John Drake, a tradesman of Hampton-in-Arden, the parish next door to Wroxall in Warwickshire, who had a daughter Mary, and she may be the girl who married John Bissell. Since no marriage record has yet been found, we can't be certain. I generally function under the KISS principle: keep it simple---if people from adjoining parishes were gathering under Rev. Hewitt to come to America it's likely that the Mary Drake and John Bissell who joined them, lived there also. But, was she born there?---ah, that's the question.

We must keep looking.
