Dozier Family of Warren County, Georgia
Posted by: Jessie Cheek (ID *****0904) Date: July 13, 2009 at 16:07:54
  of 1609

I am seeking information on the Dozier family of Warren County, Georgia. There was a James Dozier on the 1840 census in Warren County, GA, who was single and between 20-30 years old. I believe this was the same James Dozier as married Eliza A. and was on the 1850 Warren Co., GA census:

On 1850 Warren Co., GA census, HH 685/685
James L. Dozier, age 35, farmer, b. GA
Eliza A. Dozier, age 29, wife, b. GA
Thomas J. Dozier, age 5, b. GA
Wm. Dozier, age 2, b. GA
Columbus Dozier, age 14, b. GA

I am seeking information on who James' parents may have been. I am sure that he was the same James L. Dozier who moved to Trinity Co., TX by the 1860 census:

On 1860 Trinity Co., TX, Sumpter PO, HH 334/333
James G. Doshier, age 47, farmer, b. GA
Elisa Dosier, age 38, b. GA
Thomas J. Dosier, age 16 , b. GA
William H. Dosier, age 12, b. GA
Georgia Dosier, age 9, b. GA

and then moved to Brazos Co., TX by 1870

On 1870 Brazos Co., TX census, HH 90/70
James Dosier, age 57, farmer, b. GA
Eliza Dosier, age 46, b. GA
Thomas Dosier, age 25, b. GA, clerk in Dry goods store

1880 Brazos Co., TX census, HH 313 (next door to William H. Dozier)
J.L. Dozier, age 66, b. GA SC GA, farmer
Eliza Dozier, age 59, b. GA GA GA, keeping house

This James L. Dozier was buried in the Thompson Creek Cemetery, as well as a number of other members of this family.

Please write to me if you are related to this family. I would be happy to know who the parents were of this James L. Dozier. I would also like to be in contact with descendants of this family. I am not related, but have a lot of information on this family.

I used to think that this William Henry Dozier was the son of a Richard Tally Dozier, but since I discovered the earlier census data, I am sure that was not correct.
