Hello, I am researching a group of Doxeys from Tennessee. On the 1850 census there is a "Lauretta" Doxey born abt. 1834 TN. I have no other information on this family. I keep coming back to it because I think it is my ggg-grandfathers family. 1850 Census Maury County, Tennessee District 24 19 Sep 1850 Dwelling number 629/Family number 629 Doxey, Daniel 45 M Farmer NC , Lusanna 39 F NC cannot read/cannot write , Mary 18 F TN , Drusilla 17 F TN , Lauretta 16 F TN in school within the year , Matilda 15 F TN , Martin 14 M TN , Milley 12 F Tn , John 10 M TN , Nancy 6 F TN , Benjamin 4 M TN , Elizabeth 2 F TN Hicks, Jemima85 F NC cannot read/cannot write The Benjamin Doxey above listed could be my ggg-grandfather. I am trying to prove up this data. My ggg-grandfather was Benjamin Franklin Doxey who was born in Tennessee and died in Mason County, Texas. Buried in Coffey Cemetery. The Daniel Doxey above was imprisoned and pardoned in Marshall County, TN. It is recorded and listed online in the Tennessee Library and Archives. While in prison he stated he was born and raised in Johnston County,NC. The only other Doxey there in the early years was a John Doxey on the 1800 and 1810 Census. Daniel was on the 1820 Census for Johnston County, NC. Daniel was counted on 1830 Davidson County, TN Census, 1840 Marshall County, TN Census, and the one above I listed for Maury County, TN 1850. I just listed on this same message board in answer to a query about a Millicent Doxey. I believe that to be the same one as the "Milley" in the 1850 Census above.
