Hi. The first Doxey to come to America was Thomas Doxey, from Newcastle England in 1646, on the ship "Little James". He traded among settlements along the Long Island Sound in his sloop. He died in 1650 - one of the first two recorded deaths in New London, CT. His wife remarried, and his young son was sent back to England for an education. The Doxey / Doxsey / Doxee family remained in the New York / Long Island area for generations. They were torries during the Revolutionary War, and are related to Benedict Arnold through marriage (his wife). Some landholders were exiled to Nova Scotia after 1776 for supporting the King of England. The family is quite large, I believe. There is a gentleman in Tenn. (Doxsey) who is very interested in the family history and can give you more information. My Dad and he have communicated for years. Good luck.
