Doxey Family Genealogy Forum

My family (originally Doxey) stems from a Thomas Doxey, from Newcastle England who died in New London, Conn. in 1650. One son was existed, who was sent by his mother back to England as a small child for his education. Thomas Sr. came to this country on the ship called the "Little James", I believe in 1646. He traded among the settlements along Long Island Sound, and had a sailing sloop. His father was a ship's captain in England. His is one of the first two deaths recorded in Connecticut. Could his son be connected in some way with your Thomas Doxey? The name Doxey in England originated in a small hamlet near London - named for a plant which grows along the riverbanks, and means "where the docks grow". There is a family crest which exists, but I do not have a copy. Do you? Are you in touch with the Doxsey's in Tenn? The name is also spelled Doxee, same family I believe.
