I am seeking information on William Yates Downman born Belle Isle, Lancaster County VA in 1830, died Idlewild, Spotsylvania County 1864, buried Belle Isle. William spent only a very short time as a soldier during the Civil War, but I have reason to believe that he may have served in the Confederate government in Richmond Virginia in some capacity as well. Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.
