I have considerable information concerning the descendants of Calvin Day and the Marion Downing who married Calvin's daughter Helen. There is no obvious connection, however, with John H. Downing as described by Susan Craven. Francis Marion Downing, b. April 15, 1841, in Mercer Co., Ohio, was the son of James Downing. James' father was William Downing, b. 1772, and his grandfather was Timothy Downing, presumably "Timothy the Tory" born in Maryland in 1744 and married to a Chenoweth.
I can verify the children of Helen Day and (Francis) Marion Downing listed by Robert Martinson except Herbie Downing and "Bessie Downing", who actually was the second *wife* of Edwin Milton Downing, born Bessie Winchell. I met Bessie before she died, and several of their descendants are now living in and around Ontario, WI. I would be happy to provide additional information if you write me and would be interested to learn what you may know about this family. Marion was a brother of my grgrandfather, Jacob Downing, born in 1845 in Mercer Co, Ohio.
