Not related.......just a lookup.
Appears the surname you are looking for is DOWNS not DOWNING. Census work and ordering copies of marriage/death/obits are needed when documenting our family lines.
You did not post dob or dod for these people but after reading your old postings I dont see how the 1880 census could be your Amanda, she was already married by then...Right?
I was able to spend some time on this family group and looks like I may have a good match.

I viewed Amanda's Missouri Death Certificate and it states her father was John B. Forkner bn KY and Jane Downs bn IN.
Amanda died with the surname Nelson and is buried at Fairview Cemetery, Jasper Co, MO. It would be a good idea for you to order a copy of her death certificate for your family files.And checking with the Cemetery may offer more clues for where an Obit might be found.
To further support the Downs surname for the mother....I was able to find and view the Missouri Death Certificate for Amanda's brother, Hiram Forkner. It also states father, John B. Forkner bn KY & mother: Jane Downs bn IND.

*No relationships are listed on any 1850 census but could the Isaac S. & Angeline Downs be younger siblings of Melinda?? Possible. The ages are off abit here but you can tell by the names it the same family group for the 1860 census below.
