Hoping to connect with someone working on this Downing family line. Since little has been posted on this Downing family group I thought this OBIT may be of help to others.
William Harvey Downing
bn 26 Apr 1893 in Missouri
died 06 Oct 1951 in Commerce,Ottawa Co, OK
buried: Baxter Springs Cemetery, Baxter Springs, Cherokee Co, KS.
Son of William Delaney Downing & Amanda L.(surname unknown). I believe, based on census records, that this William Delaney Downing is the same 'Laney' Downing listed on several old charts; s/o William Harvey Downing & Mary Catherine Cotton/Cotten.
Thru the kindness of 'lookup angel' Kim Baker & the Miami Public Library (Ottawa Co, OK); I was able to locate the OBIT for him in the Miami News Record (newspaper)on 08 Oct 1951.
Shortened version:.William H. Downing, 58 year old Commerce resident .......Downing died at the home of his mother, Mrs. Amanda Downing, 505 North Maple street......Other survivors include his wife, Mrs. Daisy Downing of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Phyllis Pulley, Treece, Kas; two sisters, Mrs. Susie Perry (really Peery), Commerce, and Ethel Bolin, Wichita, Kas., and two brother, Ed Downing, Picher, and Roy Downing, Wichita, and five grandchildren.
the two brothers are really:
Ed Downing......David Edward Downing
Roy Downing.....Roy Clinton Downing
Sister:
Susie Perry .....really Susie M. Peery, widow of John Leroy Peery.
