Hi Tina,
My information suggests a possible connection with your family. My grandfather Austin James Downing (1886-1957) had a brother Dwight Downing, as well as a sister Ida and another brother William. Austin was born August 7, 1886 in Crawford County, Missouri. He later moved to East St. Louis and died in Palmyra, Illinois in 1957.
I have no information about Dwight, except for his children's names. I do have two photographs of him.
There seems to be a possible match with the children on your list, however I do not have their full names, spouses or children. I believe that they generally lived in either Crawford County, MO or near the Rolla, MO area.
Following are possible matches along with your list in parenthesis: Andrew (or Dwight Andrew Jr.?), Paris, Clarence, Thomas (or Thomas Lee?), Frances (or Ida Frances?), and Howard (or John Howard?).
I also saw a posting in 2002 from Derbra Downing (post #2202). She referred to grandparents Paris Downing (died Jan. 1988) who married a Edna Ennis (died in 1987), both from MO. Her father was William Earl Downing (born Aug. 21, 1936). It may be that her information fits into the puzzle. I will send the same message to her and see if she has more info.
The parents of Austin and Dwight were Paris Downing (1860-1900) and Mary ?? (married after 1880). I am stuck at Paris and can't seem to get detailed info any further back.
The Missey side is more complex. Austin married Zora Missey (1893-1945), who had two sisters Minerva and Lora. I've never seen reference to Mary Myrtle, but she could be a cousin of Zora through one of her Uncles. Zora's parents were Benjamin Missey (born 1868 in Wayne Co., MO) and Ella Street. I have some possible links to parents and prior generations going back to France.
If you could review this information and ask questions of any older relatives we could maybe verify the connection. Also see if family members have any old photos, records, or family lists.
